How Does the Oil Cleansing Method Work?
First, lets dispel the rumor that using oil to cleanse your face will make your skin oily. The basic concept behind the OCM relies on the fact that the skin naturally produces oil and that contrary to popular belief, oil by itself does not cause blemishes. These are caused by a combination of factors such as hormones, bacteria, trapped dirt, etc. Oil cleansing is based on the dissolution theory of 'like dissolves like' where oil is able to dissolve substances with a similar chemical structure. So in skin care, oil can dissolve dirt, makeup and sunscreen. Yes, it's even suitable for those with oily skin. Seriously.
Step 1: Choose an oil (or a combination of oils) suitable for your skin type. We use the rejuvenating facial oil.
Step 2: Apply it with your hands or a cotton pad. Massage into your skin thoroughly.
Step 3: Rinse with a warm towel.
Simple, right? Instead of using harsh detergents that can dry your skin out, try this method, ESPECIALLY if you have problem skin/acne. Pimples are often a result of clogged pores, which happens when your skin produces too much sebum. When your skin is stripped of it's natural oils, this causes your skin to go into overdrive and produce more.
Oil cleansing can effectively remove dirt, grime, and even makeup while replenishing it with oil that nourishes and even heals your skin. As with any new skincare regimen, there may be an adjustment period. There is a possibility of breakouts as your skin gets used to your new cleansing method - but don't fret! The outcome will likely be a healthier, more natural glow.
